4 Releases Out Today! http://www.enhancedmusic.com/news/1950 Mon, 14 May 2012 00:00:00 +0000
Nuera returns to Enhanced with yet another stunning EP, this time in the form of 'Arum' and 'Magnolia.' The faster paced of the two, Arum centres around a quite stunning breakdown, laced with layers of haunting vocals, pads and warm melodies. More restrained, yet just as beautiful is Magnolia, with its nonchalant groove, delicious vocals and fantastic use of saxophone really helps this track, and EP stand out from the crowd again for Nuera.

Get the release HERE.

Gathering a head of steam over the past few months is The Madison, having seen his productions and remixes gain huge support from the who's who of trance. Delivering another EP, this time spread out over three outstanding tracks. First up is 'When You,' which features on the forthcoming Digitally Enhanced compilation. Based around a gorgeous break, The Madison delivers his most emotive track yet, with a wicked groove and clever use of vocals. 'Calling On' again uses a simple, but incredibly effective hook, that really plays well with his tight, pulsing bass and neat melodies. Rounding off the EP is the great 'Chords,' which again provides an instantly memorable main section that will stick in your head for days.

Get the release HERE.

Gery Rydell's double header lands in perfect timing for the start of the summer, with both tracks evoking feelings of hot summer days. 'Manhattan' opens the EP, with it's delicious groove, neat synths and 80's undertones which all build together towards the fantastic climax. Providing the perfect partner to 'Manhattan' is 'Ocean Drive' which follows a similar formula, albeit slightly more restrained than its predecessor. A great release from Gery Rydell.

Get the release HERE.

'Endorush' was Noah Neiman's last outing on Lange Recordings, and some outing it was having been supported by the who's who of trance, such as Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz and of course Lange himself, for whom the track has become a staple of his sets for the last six months. Noah returns with the mysteriously named and equally hard hitting 'They Have Laser Eyes.' With his fresh take on trance, Noah's floor rocking beats and fine attention to detail make this another breathtaking release that retains the attention of the listener throughout.

On The Sofa with... Tania Zygar! http://www.enhancedmusic.com/news/1947 Mon, 14 May 2012 00:00:00 +0000
Enhanced: It's great to catch up with you today Tania, lets dive straight in. First question: with recent releases such as 'The Wall' and the 'Death of Me'. Not to mention news on an upcoming album. How are you holding up?

Tania: Thanks for thinking of me! Well, it's been a crazy four months, time has just flown by and have never done more traveling my whole life than what I've been doing recently, it's been a trip!

I'm holding up pretty well actually, the excitement and good news, positive environment, and the overwhelming support from fans and friends alike has really kept me going. I've been in the studio a few times now to work on album tracks and singles. I've finished recording three new tracks, 'Over Again,' 'Sick,' and 'Diamonds,' for three really talented and well-known producers; I'm very happy about them! I've also written about half of the album tracks, and am working all the time! I will be honest and say that, at times, it is very stressful keeping up with all of the demands, and I fall behind on getting back to people, etc. It's horrible! But as a Libra, I work on balancing life/things every day and am getting better at the juggling act!

Enhanced: You've worked with many producers, most recently the prestigious Arty, Australian producer TyDi and Enhanced's fast rising star, Estiva. How did you guys get together for such collaborations? Was it a meet and greet in the studio? or the world wide web communications? Or perhaps a mixture of both?

Tania: Believe it or not, I've never met Arty nor Estiva, although I think our paths will cross very soon. ;) I usually get approached by the producer, usually through an e-mail or a Skype conversation! For Tyson, he had supported a track of mine on his radio show and I thanked him for the support, he replied by asking to work together, which I said yes to, and well, the rest is history! As for Arty and Estiva, Will Holland had approached me last year and I eventually got in touch with both of them during the writing process. Social media and internet itself has really shaped how we can get in touch, and I really believe that none of this would've have happened 15 years ago, at least not to me. So I'm very thankful that social media makes other artists accessible in real-time.

Enhanced: How do you choose which producers to work with?

Tania: Well, if I haven't heard of them as I'm still pretty new, I go through their old tracks, hear what demo they've sent me, and examine whether our styles would mesh well together. I also really like to be able to connect with the producer on a human level, they have to be nice and intelligent people with a sense of humor, and perhaps have some of the same influences than I do, it really depends.

For the album, I thought really hard about the type of producer I wanted. I had conversations with different studio owners, writers, peers and labels to determine what I really wanted from this album. It's been a long process but the vision for the album is really clear now, I'm so excited about it's release!

Enhanced: Tell us how Tania Zygar injects her spellbinding lyrics in to a given melody? Do you have a special routine for getting yourself emotionally attached to a particular tune, before you can write the lyrics for them?

Tania: It really depends whether the producer gives me the demo beforehand or if I'm making it from scratch. When they send me a demo, I will listen to it over and over again everywhere I go for a day, and then take it in the studio and break it down on the piano and guitar and start writing. Sometimes, I'll even record myself singing whatever comes to my head while listening to the track and that's usually where the basis of the emotion, phrasing, and lyrics come from!

When I'm making it from scratch (like I am currently doing on the album!), I will play my lovely Korg Kronos with a glass of wine and play something that comes to my head with various sounds to get a good impression of how I want the song to 'feel'. I then make a standard progression on that key on the sequencer with a drum track and then listen to it and again, start going through random lyrics and ideas I've written on documents, post-its, my phone, e-mails etc. and start putting the pieces together. Making the vocal melody is my favourite part! I'll literally do 'ohs and ahs' over and over again to get the timing perfect and start shaping the lyrics to the rhythm I recorded.

Enhanced: We spotted a video on your YouTube page, announcing an upcoming album. Care to share more with us on that?

Tania: I would love to! I've been working very hard in and out of the studio to make this album capture 'the best of me'. I've written about half of the songs on the album, and have been going to an amazing studio in Toronto to record the vocals. It sounds so good now! It's nothing compared to what you've heard in any of my releases, as all of those (with the exception of 'Puzzle Piece') were recorded at home with my not-so-hot engineering skills. The album tracks will be recorded, engineered, and mastered by true professionals, so the sound quality is not comparable to what you've heard from me in the past.

The label recently approved a direction change for the album's sound and I couldn't be more excited. I can't divulge the master plan, but I'll say that I got exactly what I envisioned, and I couldn't be happier. You guys (Enhanced) have been great to work with, so thank you for making this big dream of mine come true!

Enhanced: In addition to the above question, what would be the perfect Tania Zygar album for you? Tell us what you would bring to the table, if all options were open for you to create something truly unique?

Tania: The perfect album is exactly what I described above, but it would also encapsulate the sounds that really inspire me - driving bass lines, sweet melodies, Imogen Heap-like harmonies, lots of warm guitars, cellos, and amazing piano playing. My personal taste is very eclectic, and I really want for that to show in the album. I feel like what people have heard in the singles released is only half of what I can do, it has been a really motivating experience so far.

Enhanced: Do you have a favourite album that you find yourself going back to over and over again for inspiration?

Tania: Yes, I'd say the self titled 'Robyn' album from 2008 - it's so perfect! It flows, her lyric writing is the best in her industry (IMO), and it evokes so many real emotions that all of us experience. She really connects with people and that's what I hope to do as well - she's a huge idol of mine!

Enhanced: Back to your releases, the acoustic version of 'The Wall', gripped the hearts of many including myself, can we expect an acoustic version for the upcoming track 'Death of Me' too perhaps?

Tania: Yes! Actually, this is something I've been working on these past two weeks and will be ready for everyone really soon. The version I'll be singing on the video will be closer to the one that I envision on the album, with a similar feel and melody, almost like a rework! I'm filming it actually right after this interview!

Enhanced: With such a powerful title can you tell us what the 'Death of Me' means to you lyrically?

Tania: I wrote 'Death of Me' because of what goes on behind the scenes in the music industry, it's pretty bad now! People are admiring artists that don't write their own music, there's a certain backwards politics to it all and at the beginning of my 'career', it really frustrated me. Just like the big POP industry, that person has a team of 20+ people making sure their perception and image is marketable, relatable, etc. It's a tough world! I've accepted the pitfalls of working in music and I embrace the challenges I face as it makes me a stronger person. I think people can relate to 'Death of Me' in that sometimes putting in your best and wanting something so bad will kill you - this goes beyond music but any career - it's so easy to fall into the 'dark side' and you have got to learn how to keep your head up and yourself out of trouble.

Enhanced: 'Death of Me' has just been released. Can we expect any further collaborations with yourself and Estiva in the future?

Tania: Yes! I have asked Steven to be part of the album process.

Enhanced: Describe "Death of Me", in your own words, what can people anticipate from this release?

Tania: Ahh, it's very unique! I think Estiva really took the meaning of the lyrics and the emotion in the vocal tone and made a track that speaks volume. To me, it sounds urgent and intense, I still dance around to the breakdown - it's massive! I think people will relate to the meaning and be able to feel the emotion behind the track as much as I do, or at least I hope so.

'Death of Me' is for anyone who knows how easy it is to lose yourself over something you love doing - that struggle to keep up with The Jones' while staying true to yourself.

Enhanced: Final question, what can we expect from Tania for the rest of 2012? Do you have any live performances penciled in that we should know about?

Tania: Well, I'll be doing lots of filming, now that the album making process is in full effect - so expect a lot of YouTube videos. I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling between Ottawa (where I currently live) to Toronto for recording, and I'll be in Vancouver, L.A, Toronto and NYC writing music with others, filming my first ever music video where I'm featured, and more contests so I can really get to know my fans!

There are some talks of performances, but I've learned not to confirm anything until close to the date as things change really quickly, especially for singers in EDM (at least for a newbie like me!). My main focus for the rest of 2012 is working on the album with people that inspire me and making it the best it can be!

Her latest release (with Estiva) is currently sitting at #3 in the Beatport Trance Chart, so we thought it would be a good time for a quick catch up with Tania Zygar!
